Tag.....Sort Of?

I have to tell ya.......I spend so much time EVERY night checking everyone elses blogs that as Im getting ready to shut down the computer I fianlly realize that I have not yet posted. I keep thinking that the "newness" will wear off and I won't spend so much time here but look at the time AGAIN! Nearly 3 am. Im nuts.

I came across this cutest site tonight called Which Celebrity Mom Are You? So of course I had to give it a shot. It actually surprised me how much it sounds like me........

You're a force to be reckoned with, an oversold one-woman show performing round-the-clock appearances for foot-stomping crowds everywhere. Tirelessly good-humored, you manage to make it all look not only easy, but also fun. With more side jobs than you have kids, you also manage a long-term, rock-solid marriage and a high profile business partnership. Your secret is always remembering to laugh -- inspiring us, even at our most exasperated, to throw back our heads and join you.

And which Celebrity Mom am I most like???????

Kelly Ripa

Heres the site if you want to give it a try...http://family.go.com/community/quizzes/which-celebrity-mom-are-you-qz/

Im using this post as a "Sort Of' Tag..........so I tag Everyone! Give it a try, it will give me something to look at tomorrow night (or is that later tonight, Im not sure as I seem to have my days and nights confused! :)

Thanksgiving and Bowling

Thanksgiving was awesome this year. Kevin, myself and Mom and Dad Waters went to the "Eureka" casino in Mesquite and had Thanksgiving dinner. It was great, No time spent shopping, no time spent cooking, no time spent doing dishes and no time trying to find room in the fridge for all of the leftovers. There was however one problem.............no leftovers. I caught myself about 11:00 last night thinking.....man I wish I had a big peice of apple pie! I got stuff today to make an apple pie, pumpkin pie and some pumpkin cresent rolls this weekend. Wish me luck!
I only hope mine turn out this pretty!

I really missed all of the kids for Thanksgiving this year and I can't wait til next year when they will all be here.

This is pretty random, but I realized that I never posted any pictures of the Wedding Rehearsal Dinner. These are from November 14th at the bowling alley where we had pizza and bowling with all of our family and freinds. We had a blast!

These boys are hams in front of the camera. Their Dad must have taught them how to take pictures! :) At least the girls and the grandbaby are smiling, well Blayke isnt exactly smiling but he is SOOOOO dang cute!!!!!!!

The Parrot

A little THANKSGIVING HUMOR!
A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior." John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?" HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

It seems that the only thing constant in life is change!

Funny how you interpret one thing "this way", when the truth is a complete different "that way". Funny how things seem to go "this way", but the next thing you know, they take another direction and go "that way". You really never know what life nor fate has in store for you. All you can do is experience life as it is, and live life to the fullest with its changes.
It is true that change is the scariest thing that might happen to a person. Sometimes you need to get hurt to realize the change for the betterment of yourself and of your life. Sometimes you never expected to be hurt by people whom you think could not do such things to you, but guess what!
With all these changes, the only thing which remains is you and yourself. Life with its sweet facade may crumble as changes happen and it may crumble you too if you're not ready. Hence, remain strong, despite the difficulties in dealing with these unforeseen eventualities, as life is constant change.
But always keep in mind that everything happens for a reason, at times we may find the answers eventually, but sometimes we will not. We must put our trust in our Heavenly Father and remember that he knows the desires of our hearts and he knows what is best for each of us.

Broken Dam

Im not quite sure why, but today I feel like a dam broke!...........Im sure it has nothing to do with the past several, emotional months, like the sickness and passing of our Angel Rodger, a new grandson that I adore, Deryck and Brittany getting married, my youngest sister Kristy and her husband John FINALLY getting the baby boy they have been praying for, for several years now (I will post about that beautiful baby boy, Jacob on a later post) helping family members through trials, getting the devastating news that one of my favorite uncles has Pancreatic Cancer, a neice and her husband having trials with Social Services and foster children, Kevin going back to work after nearly two months of vacation (graveyards to boot), I love having him home and near me, etc., etc., etc.,.........

After two straight hours of non stop, much needed tears, (Kevin will be so happy he is at work when he reads this) I have decided to use my Blogging as therapy since there is no legitimate "nut house" open on a Sunday and at this hour. I have spent way to many years being "the fixer", the "fixer" for everyone else. Tonight however it is my turn. I am going to use my fixing abilities on myself and talk myself through this (you all are lucky enough to be able to tune into "As Lori's World Turns" UPSIDE DOWN and back again!).
Blogging Therapist; Do you get at least eight hours of sleep every night, go to bed at a decent hour and rise and shine refreshed?
Lori; To be very honest....NO. Just in case nobody noticed nearly all of my posts have been done after the magic hour of 1:00 am. I don't remember the last time I went to bed before 2:00 am. Im sure this has contributed to my current state of mind. I vow right now to TRY to do better and to get my sleep........
Blogging Therapist; Why do you feel the need to "Fix" everything, and everyone?
Lori; Because I Love everyone so much that it pains me to see them hurt, or have struggles. I am trying to learn that everyone must go through certain struggles in life to grow. I must learn to be a listener and realize that I cannot save the world (although I would if I could). I read something the other day that told me that I cannot and should not try to fix everyones problems. Because, as I said before there is a reason (far more complex) than I can understand, for each one to endure their individual tests and trials. By interfering, I am limiting each ones ability to have personal growth. But, I will not stop being a friend or listener...........sorry........thats just how it has to be! Keep in mind that "Old habits die hard" and I may revert back to my fixing ways every now and again.
Blogging Therapist; Do you ever use the phrase "What If?"
Lori; Yes, all the time. I am constantly saying "What if the economy gets worse" or "What if our kids fall on hard times?", "What if someone has less than I do?" "What if someone I love gets a terminal disease?"........"What if"..........."What if"............."What if"............. you get my drift. I am working on realizing that there are several things in my life that I have control over and MANY that I do not, the "What ifs". I need to spend my precious time focusing on the things I can control and less time on the "What ifs" that I obviously have no control over.
Blogging Therapist; What will you do to keep from reverting back to your old ways?
Lori; I will understand that I cannot change anyone, nor can I save the world, as much as I would love to be able to. I will love unconditionally, I will forgive quickly, I will accept everyone as they are.
Blogging Therapist; Do you realize that you are having a therapy session with a computer and yourself? And that it is again after 3:00 am?
Lori; I am?????? Just kidding......yes I do, but I must say this session helped tremendously. I only hope that my insurance will cover the bill!

Morphing

Oh no! I found another time consumer......this "morphing" on http://www.myheritage.com/

First I spent at least an hour with the camera trying to get a picture that would morph me up with someone other than Laura Bush. Every shot I used showed me looking most like Laura...........no offense...........she a gorgeous lady, Its just that Im not that mature yet. The site suggests using different shots from different days and seeing what celebrities show up more than once. They call these your "Celebrity Twins". Other celebs that came up more than once were Katie Couric, Nancy Carrigan, Chelsea Clinton and Cathrine Zeta Jones (she is the one that I beleive I look most like). LOL! Im not even sure who the celeb is (Carol Vorderman) that I finally posted the morph with. What does she play in?

Now I will add my THANKFUL THURSDAY! After several minutes of pondering this question, I have come up with this, I am thankful for my senses, sight, smell, hearing, taste and touching. I am also thankful for health, my own and the health of my family.
I am thankful for the gift of compassion, (I know at times I have called it a curse), but I truly am thankful for it. I
had a wise friend tell me today that I need to learn how to be just a "listener" instead of trying to be everyones "fixer". This is one of the "habits" that I have had for so many years, I don't know how to stop "fixing". I know I can't fix the world but I certainly would like to go down in history as doing my best to fix what I can, (sometimes I just can't help it, I do things unconciously). I need to heed the advise though, and be able to discern when someone just needs a friend to listen, and the times when someone really needs my help.

Deryck and Brittany's wedding

The wedding was beautiful!
As soon as I get pictures from the photographer I will post more but for now here
are a couple of really good ones taken by family members.
The weather could not have been better and the location was beautiful!
Isnt this a great looking bunch?

Friday night after the rehearsal we went to the bowling alley. There were 8 lanes shut down for the wedding party and there was plenty of pizza and soda. We bowled for two hours. Right before everybody started to bowl we gathered together in a meeting room so I could share some of my thoughts (through plenty of tears) with Deryck and Brittany.

I had 10 tips for the new bride and groom (Never go to bed mad at one another, always say "thank you", Don't sweat the small stuff, Always make big decisions together, etc.) You know the speech! Then I shared a poem I had written for them. When I was finished blubbering I gave each guest a wedding favor full of Jordan Almonds

It included a poem that read;

Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat,

To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet.

Five wishes for the new husband and wife,

Health, Wealth, Happines, Children,

and a Long Life!

We are so excited that Brittany is officially a member of the Waters Family. Congratulations Deryck and Brittany! We wish you both MANY, MANY, HAPPY, HEALTHY years together!

Friday, November 14, 2008

This will be a short post as we are off to Vegas for Deryck and Brittany's Wedding Rehearsal today and the BIG EVENT tomorrow. We have decided to go bowling and have pizza for the rehearsal dinner. I know kind of cheesy (no pizza pun intended), we wanted it to be more laid back than the actual ceremony and dinner tomorrow. I promise lots of pictures. I also just finished my speech for the rehearsal dinner. I will try to post some of those comments on a later post too. At least with a post everyone won't have to see me cry (I am appoligizing now to all who must endure this night with a blubbering "Mother of the Groom").

Carrying the camera every day has sure paid off............
Deryck, thats not Brittany!!!!!!!!
Between the pre-wedding stress and the testing he had today, Deryck was wiped out! He was so tired I don't think he realized it was Jax sleeping next to him instead of Brittany! I would love to snap a picture of his face when he sees this pic on my by blog. (hehe)

Grandma, your so funny!!!

Aren't those the cutest smiles you have ever seen?

Only 4 more days til wedding bells are ringing!

November 15, 2008

Here is a picure that I just love.

Daddy kissing his favorite Buddy!

Pictures like this just melt a Mom's (Grandma's) heart.

Have you ever smiled so hard it hurt? I do every time I look at pictures of my family!

Smorgasborg Saturday

Im taking Jennifers lead (thanks Jen!) and posting my "Smorgasborg Saturday" .........as soon as I swat this annoying fly that has been buzzing around my head for the past half hour..........why is it that the minute you pick up a flyswatter, they seem to disappear? He'll be back and Ill be armed and waiting.....but in the meantime that gives me a great idea for my "Sucky Saturday" portion of todays post. I get one sentence to complain about something (get it out of my system) before moving onto more productive use of my posting space. HERE GOES........We live across the street from horses and if the door stays open for longer than a nano second the house fills up with flies. Flies DRIVE ME CRAZY!!!!
Ok, on to the next part of my post which is "Survival Saturday". Jennifer challenged us to do something towards our survival preparation or at least to give it some thought each week. Im going to cheat just a little bit here and count my preparation a couple of weeks ago. In the toyhauler we have two queen sized beds (Jax's room and the guest room, humbly referred to in an earlier post), at the opposite side as the "Master Retreat" (again, humbly referred to in an earlier post). In a years time you can really collect alot of "crap" to throw under the beds. After much contemplation regarding preparation and food storage, I made a decision to clean out all of that crap and use the area for as much food storage as I could possible force under there. So with the help of Brittany (Thanks Brit!) we moved all of the unnecessary items to the storage crate outside, thus leaving me a make shift "food storage closet".
And last but certainly not least we have "Service Saturday" my favorite part. Here we are to post service that we have given as well as service that has been provided to us. My service to others included 1- taking a freind to a doctors appointment in Mesquite. 2- Making a valient effort to help a friend in need find a reasonably priced rental, and helping to fix it up so she can move in. 3- Letting Deryck's dog out of his kennel (to go potty) at night while he was on a graveyard shift.
Now I must remark about someone who gave service to me..............where do I begin? There are acts of service provided to me every day all day long, so this is hard. But I will begin with the most important, my best freind, my shoulder to lean on, my tissue getter when I cry (and I do alot of that lately), my lunch date, my dinner date, my teacher, my example, MY HUSBAND! You will have to look far and wide to find a better example of service than Kevin. He has been using his GOT HIM....that darn fly!........sorry, Kevin has been using his vacation time up so that he won't lose it. He had most of the month of October off and it appears that he will also have the majority of the month of November off too. He has spent nearly every day of it providing service. It may be helping Deryck hang blinds, or helping Jestin move furniture, or most days you will find him helping his Dad in the yard. Never one time has he complained. He does it all with a happy heart and I want him to know that I love him for that! Im sure I have murmered a time or two (OK maybe three or four) about the fact that he has had all of these days off and we have not gone on vacation, on a date (does eating at Sugars count?) or much of anything for us. But thats OK. I want him to know that he is my HERO! He is the greatest example of service that I will ever find. By the way he has provided service to me also, just tonight I was complaining about the heater making a loud noise. He jumped right up, grabbed his tools and proceeded to fix the noisy heater. GOOD JOB HONEY, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! I must close now and replace my "blogging hat" with my "Fly Hunter" hat. Either the earlier fly is reincarnated, or his cousin is buzzing around my head. AARRRGGGG.........Don't flies sleep!!!!!!!

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Ok, so I promised to carry my camera with me at all times (just in case that winning photo presents itself)............I have kept that promise but I found out that without batteries the darn thing won't work. So today I replaced the batteries and I am well on my way to that once in a lifetime shot.....somewhere, sometime!

Since reading "The Message" (twice) I cannot believe how many opportunities for service have presented themselves to not only myself, but to Kevin too. Have you ever had a time when you weren't sure why someone had been placed in your path, you just knew that once they were you needed to help? Such has been the case this past week with two people. What is even more bizzare is that we have known these two for years and never really given them much thought, at least as far as asking ourselves "What can we do to help these two struggling people, each with different backgrounds, personalities, and circumstances? (I must admit at this point that there have been times that both people have seemed unhappy and harsh only to be interpreted by me as flat out "rude"). As we questioned our inner selves, we have found that the answers have come very clearly. We have made a sincere effort to make them both our friends. In doing so, we have seen a new light inside each of them, in fact we have found them both to have a side that we never dreamt was there.
Both have very different needs and we will do the very best we can to try to lighten their burdens, whether it means repairing things for them, helping financially if needs be, or just being a freind enough to listen and understand them. Sometimes a smile and a simple "hello" is worth a million dollars. Funny..........after each small gesture or act of service, I know I have felt like a million bucks!!!!!
If ever you feel like you are the only one that is down on your luck, you don't need to look very far to find someone that has things alot worse than yourself. THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO FORGET ABOUT YOUR OWN WOES THAN TO PROVIDE SERVICE (AND FRIENDSHIP) TO SOMEONE IN NEED!!!! I Guarantee, you, yourself, will be the recipient of happiness and blessings every time!

I have to tell everyone about this book. A freind recommended it to me, and once I started it (which happened to be about midnight one night, imagine that LOL) I couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing that night. I told Kevins Mom and Dad about the book last week and they have wanted to hear more about it every since. So tonight as we were visiting outside I felt the need to bring it up again. I grabbed the book and told them to come inside for "Story Time". Mom, Dad and Kevin agreed to let me read the book to them. We agreed that we would read a couple of chapters every night until we finished the book. We got to chapter 4 and I asked them if they wanted me to stop reading. Everyone said no, so on I read. 5 hours, and plenty of tears later we finished it. WOW! What an incredible book. I would highly recommend it. Every since I have started this Blog, I have done alot of soul searching, not exactly sure why, maybe its because I have set a goal to write a post (or journal entry, whichever way you look at it) every night. I find myself pondering all day about what I will write about. My hope is that in some small way my words will touch someone. Earlier tonight I recieved a phone call from a very special someone, telling me that one of the posts that I wrote had meant alot to her. I'm learning that this is what it's all about, lifting one anothers spirits and sharing our incredible experiences with one another. Most nights as I prepare to write a post, I have no clue about the topic until I actually start to type. I hope that I am able to say things that are comforting to at least one person reading, as many of your blogs have comforted me, and some have definately gave me a chuckle. I LOVE STAYING IN TOUCH THIS WAY! Keep up the good work all! I know some of my posts are lengthy lately, and I haven't added pictures often enough. I will vow right now to carry my camera with me to get some good pics to add to my posts. One last thing before I retire to bed (again after 3 in the morning) I have a really good freind watching my blog that is in the hospital right now and I want her to know that I am thinking about her, praying for her, and wishing her a GREAT BIG GET WELL SOON!

The RS lesson went very well. I sometimes feel like when I give a lesson, that I ramble on about things that make no sense. I hope this was not the case today. This was way to important of a message. OK, one more song (with lyrics) tonight. This song "Every Breath" is also on my playlist (scroll down about halfway on my page and click the song) Im not sure why but these two songs have really touched me. EVERY BREATH His hands are catching your tears And even without any words, He hears You feel so far but He’s right where you are And He knows (Chorus) Every Breath, every Pain He knows your heart and He knows your name The giver of life lighting your soul Oh come home, come rest Let Him bless, your every breath (End of Chorus) Silent your voice and be still And even without any words you will feel You think you’re far but He lives in your heart And He knows (Chorus) Every Breath, every Pain He knows your heart and He knows your name The giver of life lighting your soul Oh come home, come rest Let Him bless, your every breath (End of Chorus) There’s no where you can go That He hasn’t been below (Chorus) Every Breath, every Pain He knows your heart and He knows your name The giver of life lighting your soul Oh come home, come rest Let Him bless, let Him bless your every breath (End of Chorus) I really need to get to bed at a decent hour tonight.....so goodnight all!

A couple of weeks ago, when all the family was here for Rodgers funeral, Danila was sitting on the couch playing on her computer, revising her Blog, and it began to play the most beautiful song. Sometimes you hear a song and it stops you in your tracks. The song is "The Makers Touch". (Click on the Playlist at the bottom of my page and click on the song). I have just spent the last hour trying to find the lyrics. I searched everywhere I could think of and still couldn't find them so I kept playing the song over and over again and writing them down. What a beautiful song. Here are the lyrics (just in case you want to sing them like I did). (First Verse)I watched the stars fill up the sky, a billion lights that testify, His hand is in all of creation. And there is no doubt He has made me, has given me life with each breath I breath, and I feel a debt to never forget Him. (Chorus) I am His child, made with His love and it is enough to bring me to my knees. He's reaching down and I'm reaching up and somehow I feel The Makers Touch. (Second Verse) Sun and the moon weighing His name, marking the path and lighting my way. All of these things given to me. So I will bow down for all of the earth and offer Him praise for my infinite worth, for all of the light He's given to me. (Chorus, twice). I am also studying for my lesson in Relief Society tomorrow. Its on Life after Death. I was supposed to give the lesson the same week that Rodger passed away but I didn't feel like I could do it then. My dear freind Julie, who happens to be a counselor in the Presidency, arranged it so I could still give this lesson when I felt up to it, and I appreciate her for that. There is so much growth in preparing for a lesson, especially one on this topic. Wish me luck!!!
